Digital Dental X-Raysxrays2

Dental X-rays work by creating an image of the denser parts of your body, such as teeth and bone. We utilize X-rays to reveal dental problems that may not be apparent to the naked eye. Digital X-rays are not only faster and more accurate, but also emit up to 90 percent less radiation than conventional film X-rays, which is safer for both patients and staff.

At Ridgeview Family Dental, we are proud to offer digital intraoral X-rays, which involve taking the picture from inside the mouth. This allows us to have a more accurate idea of the health and status of your teeth and their roots.

Types Of Digital Intraoral X-Rays

Bitewing X-rays are taken every 6 to 12 months and are used to look at specific parts of your mouth. This type of X-ray allows Dr. Young to see the visible parts of your teeth and parts that lie beneath the gum line. This type is most commonly used to detect any signs of decay in between your teeth. This can also help us detect any changes to your jawbone as a result of gum disease.

Periapical X-rays, or PAs, are single, problem-focused X-rays that can see the whole tooth from root to crown. They’re taken when needed and allow Dr. Young to check for bone loss, gum disease, abscesses, and infections.

Panoramic X-rays are used to see your entire mouth. They show the position of all of your teeth, whether they have emerged or not. Panoramic X-rays are usually taken every 3 to 5 years and allow the dentist to evaluate the wisdom teeth, as well as look for cancer, tumors, abnormalities, and issues with the TMJ.

We use small, intraoral cameras to help patients clearly see the condition of their teeth and better understand the recommended treatment. With this advanced technology, we can zoom in on hidden diseased areas, cracks, chips, and worn metal fillings with extreme precision.

The full-color images taken with the intraoral camera are sent to the computer screen so we can see and diagnose dental problems much earlier than with traditional dental technology. Because images are displayed on our screens, patients will also be able to see areas being worked on and can gain a clear idea of dental procedures being performed.
