What are Dental x-rays?
Dental x-rays work by creating an image of the denser parts of your body, such as teeth and bone, revealing dental problems that may not be apparent to the naked eye.
At Ridgeview Family Dental, we are proud to offer digital x-rays. Digital x-rays are not only faster and more accurate but also emit up to 90% less radiation than conventional film x-rays.
Types of Digital x-rays
- Bitewing X-rays are taken every 6-12 months and allow the Dentist to evaluate for decay in between the teeth.
- Periapical X-rays, or PAs, are single, problem focused x-rays. They are taken on an as needed basis and allow the Dentist to evaluate for bone loss, gum disease and abscesses or infections.
- A Panoramic X-ray is taken every 3-5 years and allows the Dentist to evaluate the wisdom teeth, as well as look for cancers, tumors, abnormalities, and issues with the TMJ.
