Bring your Child to Ridgeview Family Dental for their Cleanings and Evaluations
- Posted on: Sep 15 2018
Not every dentist is equipped to handle children. At Ridgeview Family Dental, we have a team of professionals, including Dr. R. McKell Young, who provides child-centered care along with treatments for adults. The entire family can visit the practice for their oral health care needs under one roof. Treatment and services for children are similar to those available for adults.
Scheduling your child’s first dental visit
It is important for parents to bring their children to the dental office for an evaluation as soon as their first tooth erupts through the gum line or at least by their first birthday. This allows a dentist to evaluate the smile and educate parents on how to care for the child’s smile. Our dentist will teach parents about habits to enforce such as not sending the baby to bed with a milk bottle and cleaning the teeth and gums with a wet washcloth to avoid the development of cavities. The team at Ridgeview Family Dental will encourage parents to bring their child back if they have any concerns. Even young children can have their teeth cleaned by our staff during their visit, and oftentimes we will also apply a sealant or fluoride application to protect the teeth further.
How often should a child visit the dentist?
Children should visit the dentist at the same intervals as their adult family members, typically every six months. If problems arise, a visit should be scheduled as soon as possible for an evaluation. If there is the development of cavities or periodontal disease, we want to provide patients with early intervention and treatment to ensure the problem does not progress further. Conditions such as untreated periodontal disease and cavities can lead to serious issues which may require expensive repairs to address and bring the smile back to health. Preventative care reduces these risks.
